Thomann – Europe’s largest music retailer – has further lifted the customer experience at their physical store in Treppendorf, Germany, by offering a new Genelec Smart Active Monitoring (SAM™) immersive audio system as the definitive reference in their ‘Mix & Master’ department.

In light of the company’s strong commitment to high-quality customer service, Thomann have turned to Genelec’s intelligently adaptive Smart Active Monitors (SAM) to ensure that visitors of their Treppendorf site can take advantage of a flawless, neutral reference – from stereo to immersive.

Michael Bohlin, Genelec Sales Leader for Western Europe, comments, “We’re very pleased with the new 7.1.4 system in Treppendorf, which comprises of 8361As for LCR, 8351B surrounds and 8341A height channels: all ‘The Ones’ models in white. There are also two 7380As subwoofers for an exceptionally smooth response, and system control is handled by our GLM calibration software and 9320A device. Connected to an Avid S4 console with a MTRX interface, the system mimics a real-world post-production suite, but in the biggest music store in the world! After installation, it was our pleasure to help the store's team with a listening event and educational session, which Genelec’s Eric Horstmann gladly hosted.”

Eric Horstmann, Genelec Regional Business Manager, adds, “The team at Thomann is very knowledgeable and keen to learn more. At Genelec, we pride ourselves on offering training for partners and ensuring they can maintain a very high level of service for customers. In my session at Thomann, I took the team through the benefits and technical aspects of SAM Monitoring, GLM software calibration and control, using the 9320A Reference Controller device, and the system’s interaction with their Avid S4 console.”

Because every space presents different acoustic challenges, Genelec Smart Active Monitors (SAM) – such as The Ones – include the possibility to use our automatic GLM software calibration, ensuring a neutral response and maximal accuracy in a matter of minutes. SAM and GLM are particularly advantageous in the creation of multichannel systems, where the technology's easy, fast and effective optimisation comes to the fore. Once calibrated, the settings are saved into the monitors and there’s no need to calibrate again, unless the system is moved or modified, or the room remodelled.

Thomann Sales Director Florian Rittweger enthuses that, “We were delighted with the visit from Genelec, which brought tremendous value for our team. The SAM System itself is very attractive to us – and something we identify with as a solution.”

You can find Thomann’s Genelec 7.1.4 system in the Treppendorf store’s new extension building, which opened on Monday 18 May.
